Paul's first feeling of the baby

On October 18th, 2008, we went to the East Carolina - Memphis football game. It was a rainy and crummy day but we went tailgating at 8am and then went to the game at noon. We cooked breakfast sandwiches and hung out getting ready for the PIRATE game. We were at the game and the pirates were losing by a touch down, if I recall correctly. Paul and I made the decision that if Memphis scored again we were going to leave and watch the game at home.....since it was cold and rainy. The Pirates came back and scored, I was up cheering and I guess our little girl was cheering too because she started moving. I had Paul put his hand on my stomach and he finally had the opportunity to feel her kick. It was so wonderful that he could finally experience the joy that I had been feeling.

First feeling of baby Mickey

I have been feeling our baby girl move for some time now. Everytime I feel her move, I run to get Paul so that he can feel her and then she stops. Paul says that she is disobeying him already....

While I was in New York, I was out to dinner with very good friends of ours, Danielle and Rick. I felt her move and grabbed Danielle's hand, placed it on my belly and of course she stopped. Well it happened again, so I grabbed Danielle's hand again and she felt her move. Danielle was the first person other than me to feel the baby move.

New York baby shower

On October 11th 2008, my mom threw us a baby shower in New York. It was at Villa Monaco, the same place we had our wedding rehearsal dinner. We had about 25 of our family and friends there to celebrate our new baby girl, which is scheduled to arrive on Jan. 3rd, 2009. It was so nice to be able to see everyone although I wish that I was able to spend more time with everyone. It's hard since I don't live in New York anymore, so my time there is spread extremely thin.

I must say it was overwhelming sitting there having everyone staring at you as you open all the gifts. Contrary to what people would think, I hate being the center of attention. In the end, it was wonderful and baby Mickey received tons and tons of wonderful gifts.

Here are some pictures from the wonderful event:

New Picture

On another note, we were at a party this weekend where these pictures were taken. I thought that I would share them because it shows how much my belly (and Paul's) is growing.

Glucose Test 2

Well today was a very long day. I left the house at 7:15 and arrived at the doctors office at 7:35, waiting for them to open the doors. The doors opened at 7:45, I checked in, sat down and waiting for them to call me. A few minutes later, I was called and the nurse took my first tube of blood. I was then showed the lobby that I would be sitting in for the next 3 1/2 hours. I looked at those uncomfortable lobby chairs and dreaded the next few hours but I had no choice. I sat down and about 30 minutes later, they called me to drink that wonderful tasting drink (kidding) again. I was then sent to the lobby again. The nurse then took a tube of blood at 9:35, 10:35 and 11:35. I was sitting in the lobby starving and starting to get a headache, not sure if it was from the sugar or not eating. As soon as the test was over, I stopped to get something to eat.

I called the doctors office about 3:30 or so to find out the wonderful news, I passed. I do not have gestational diabetes. It has been a long 24 hours.....6 tubes of blood taken out of my left arm, 2 not so great drinks, and stress that I may have gestational diabetes. In the end, I was so glad to know that I do not have gestational diabetes.

Glucose test

Well today was the day I had to get my glucose tested for gestational diabetes. I went to the doctors office at 8 am. I was anxiously awaiting the drink that they give you.....I have heard that it is horrible. I guess I was expecting the worst but it was not awful, it was not great but not the worst thing ever. After I drank the drink I had to wait an hour before they drew blood to test for gestational diabetes. While I was waiting I saw the doctor, she listened to our little girls heart beat, which was 140. When the hour was up they drew my blood and then I was done. They said they would call sometime today to let me know the results of the test. I scheduled my next appt for Oct. 28th.

The doctor's office called me at 11am to tell me that I had failed the test. The max level is 130 and my glucose level was at 149. So, I have to go back to the doctors office tomorrow for a 4 hour test. I have to drink the same drink again but this time, they will draw my blood 4 times. If I fail the test tomorrow, they will treat me for gestational diabetes.

Stay tuned to see how the test tomorrow goes.
