Follow up from tube surgery

Well, I just realized that I never posted after Hailey had her tube surgery. I'm really sorry to leave everyone hanging. I have really been trying to be an "in-tune" mom...not be on the phone while Hailey is playing, checking out facebook or playing on the computer. I have tried to be there..mind, body and soul. Lately, I feel like my life is consumed with Hailey but I must say I love it. I have had much less time for friends and other things that I enjoy. I recently read this and believe that it is very true.....Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them (or talk to them) but you always know they are there.
With all that being said, Hailey's surgery went WONDERFUL. From the time we pulled out of the driveway until the time we pulled back in, was only a little over 2 hours. I had never been to the surgicenter and I must say we had a wonderful experience. Everyone was so friendly and things went very smooth. They even had little red wagons that were available to pull the kids around while you wait....we took full advantage of them and Hailey loved it. They use the red wagons to bring the kids back to surgery as well. I was so surprised....when the nurse came back to get Hailey, she reached right for the nurse. The nurse didn't even have to take her in the red wagon, she carried her back and she was happy as can be. That was the best feeling, I was so nervous that Hailey was going to be crying when they took her back.
She had her 2 weeks check up this week and Dr. Brodish said that everything looked great. He will not see her every 6 months to check them out.
Hailey has really started to walk so much more now. I am really wondering if all the fluid that had been building up in her ears was contributing to her being off balance. Right after she had surgery, she really took off.

No Pain, No gain

Ok, so I usually post all about Hailey. This time I am posting about me. I have always wanted to be a runner but it has just never been something that I have been good at. I have always talked about running a 5k some day but never have done it. A couple of months ago, 2 of my girlfriends and I starting talking about running....they have never run either. We kind of talked about it for a few months and never did anything about it. We decided right before Christmas that we were going to start the "couch to 5K" training program after the new year. Well we have been training for 2 weeks now. We train 3 days a week pushing the kids in the jogging strollers. It is not easy to train with out the stroller and pushing the stroller and Hailey is even harder. But I guess, NO PAIN NO GAIN. It will all be worth it. We are registering to run a 5k on March 20th.

Getting tubes

Well the Mickey house has been a whirl wind for a few days. Hailey had her 12 month check-up at the doctor on Monday. She weighed 28.4 lbs and was 31 1/4 inches long. She is over the 95th percentile for both height and weight. She grew 9 1/4 inches in one year....who can believe that. They gave her 3 shots and pricked her finger for blood. Well we found out that Hailey bleeds like me....free flowing. She had to have 4 band aids on her finger and I walked out with blood on my shirt. It was a heck of a visit since she is also having trouble with her ears. (read more below)

So, to give you a little background.....Hailey had her first ear infection in October. The doctors put her on Amoxicillin, which didn't work.....then augmentin, which didn't work....then as a last resort, she received 3 shots (1 each day) of high amounts of antibiotics. Over Christmas, she had another ear infection. We skipped the amoxicillin and went straight to the augmentin, which again didn't work. We then tried the 3 shots again. This time it got rid of the infection but we found out Monday that she still has a lot of fluid still sitting in her ears. The poor girl has been tugging and digging at her ears for a while and wakes up crying in the middle of the night. It is so sad. So, our pediatrician got us an appt with the ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctor for this past Tuesday. I took Hailey to see the specialist and he confirmed that she had fluid sitting in her ears and that we have done everything we could do. The next step would be to place tubes in her ear to help the fluid drain. The tubes usually stay in about 1 or so and then will fall out. Well, with all of that being said Hailey has surgery tomorrow morning at 8:30 to have the tubes placed in. The doctor happen to have a cancellation, so we quickly grabbed it. We have to be at the Surgicenter at 7:30 and should be home by 10. The procedure itself is only about 15 minutes. I will try to post in the next say or so to let everyone know how she is doing.

Hailey's birthday party

Last Saturday we had Hailey's 1st birthday at our house. We had about 35 family and friends and it was AMAZING. We are so lucky to have some many wonderful people in our lives, who care about Hailey. Hailey appeared to really enjoy herself. She had about 13 other kids to play with at her party. She was pretty funny when we put her cake in front of her. First, she dabbed her finger in it, just tasting the icing. Then she dug her hand in the chocolate and just started playing with the cake. After cake, we decided to have Hailey sit down and open some of the wonderful gifts that she received. She opened alot of gifts and she had many WONDERFUL little helpers. It was so cute. Below are some pictures.

Happy Birthday Hailey!

Well last year at this time, I had Hailey about 30 minutes ago. Who can believe that it has been a whole year that we have been so fortunate to have Hailey in our lives. I don't know where time goes.
She is not completely walking yet. She is talking 5 or so steps, here and there. She is holding on to everything i.e. kitchen chairs and using them to walk. Hailey does not want help doing much, she is so independent.....not sure where she gets that from. LOL With that being said, it is hard to hold her hands and help her walk because she wants to do things on her own. She currently has 10 teeth and the 11th one is coming in.
We took her to Logans for dinner tonight and she had a hotdog and french fries. After dinner, we took her to the mall and got her ears pierced. She was such a trooper. She only cried for a minute on each ear and then she was ok.

Tomorrow we are having a Winter ONE-derland party for her. We are so excited. Stay tuned for more about the party.

Below are some pictures from dinner tonight and her new ears.
